Is Cheerleading a Sport?

Some people think that Cheerleading isn't, or should be considered a sport, because it doesn't have equipment required, such as basketball balls etc. or any physical contact. I feel that Cheerleading should be considered a sport. I have been cheering since I was in the Jr. High and I have always felt that it takes just as much time and dedication as any other sport. Cheerleading isn't about “flirts in skirts”. We still have to condition and work just as hard as any other sport. Even if I wasn't a Cheerleader I would still consider it a sport. There is two different types of Cheerleading, football and basketball cheering and Competition cheering. Competition cheering is the most dangerous girl sport there is. Each one involves a lot of practice to master the skill. Our Practice is just as demanding as any other sport. People think that Cheerleading is easy but what people don't understand is that it takes technique and time to learn and memorize the material needed. To me cheerleading is not a game it is a way of life. It teaches us important skills such as cooperation and teamwork, which both are very important to be a squad and to come together. If any person would try Cheerleading they would all agree that it should be considered a sport as I do too.
